Grades K—8 attend daily religion classes and weekly Catholic Mass. Students participate in these liturgies as lectors, singers, readers, altar servers, and more. Students receive significant preparation for Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
St. Teresa students consistently score among the highest in the Diocese of Pittsburgh on standardized tests, and many of our graduates are placed in honors and advanced classes in high school. In the past nine years, eight of our alumni have been named high school valedictorians or salutatorians.
Starting in Kindergarten, students have the opportunity to participate in Athletics and/or Activities which include everything from Forensics, Chorus, and Student Council to Cross Country, Soccer, and Basketball.

Congratulations to our 8th Grade graduates!
The 8th grade class enjoyed - as proclaimed by their class t-shirts - an "Extreme 16" month of events in May! The month kicked off with a class trip to Washington, D.C. Fun was had and miles were walked exploring the great sites of our nation's capital.
With Confirmation on May 12th, our 8th graders were filled with the Spirit and solidified as adult members of our Catholic faith. A playful performance of "Almost History" put smiles on faces of the students, teachers, and parents who were in the audience for the May 13th play debut.
The traditional Sending Forth Mass took place on May 25th, where we as a school wished the 8th graders blessings and a bright future. Graduation capped off the festivities for this very special class.
BEST WISHES, GRADUATES!
May you be blessed in your journey.
Be brave and be bold.
Remember your times here,
And always stay gold.
Warmest congratulations to the St. Teresa of Avila Class of 2016 and their families! We will miss you! ... See MoreSee Less
St. Teresa of Avila School Students and Families celebrated the retirement of four cherished teachers on May 26, 2016.
Festivities kicked off in the school gym with a standing ovation for Mrs. Leibach, Mrs. Pastor, Mrs. DeMario, and Mrs. Yokitis. These teachers have given a combined total of 118 years to our school. That is a legacy!
A science skit led by current 5th graders started the show. Mrs. Leibach was awarded a distinguished medal for her 37 years of keeping kids well versed in the scientific method, and marking tremendous success in the PJAS competitions throughout her tenure.
Our resident Mouseketeer, Mrs. Pastor, with 35 years of service, was treated to a musical tribute by her current 3rd graders. Adorned in various Mickey Mouse ears, the class delivered a crowd pleasing performance, singing "Who’s the leader of the grade, that’s made for you and me? M-R-S P-A-S-T-O-R, you see!" to tune of the old Mickey Mouse Club March. It was a hit!
Mrs. DeMario was honored for her 29 years of service with some sign language and lots of love as her 2nd graders presented the song, "Bless You More" on stage. The tissues had to come out!
Thanks to the energy, dance moves, and jump roping skills of the 8th graders, Mrs. Yokitis could see that her 17 years as our gym teacher paid off. These kids were fit and fun as they showcased a medley of athletic moves to an 80s-themed "Jump" musical compilation.
Rounding out the show was a beautiful rendition of "You Are the Voice of the Living God" by sisters, Elizabeth & Mary Evankovich, and Breanna Byce, all St. Teresa alums, who lent their beautiful voices to this hymn for their beloved former teachers.
Many alumni and their parents were also on hand for this memorable gathering. The message was clear: As these lovely teachers finish their time with us as, the message of faith and love that they shared over the years lives on in the lives of the students they taught.
Thank you Mrs. Pastor, Mrs. DeMario, Mrs. Leibach, & Mrs. Yokitis. We treasure you! ... See MoreSee Less
St. Teresa of Avila School Students and Families celebrated the retirement of four cherished teachers on May 26, 2016. Festivities kicked off in the school gym with a standing ovation for Mrs. Leibac...
“St. Teresa is special because it is a place where my children feel safe and part of a family. We have met so many wonderful, caring families at this school with the same morals. It is such a good feeling knowing that my children are treated like family on daily basis.”
“We could have picked any of the Catholic schools in the area – so, why St. Teresa of Avila? From the first day we visited, it felt like family and continues to feel that way. We were impressed with the credentials of the teachers and how they all took the time to show us their classrooms and discuss the curriculum. We have not been disappointed with our choice. Our child completed first grade reading at a third grade level. Our child’s favorite prayer is the Hail Mary and believes that Mary’s favorite colors are blue and white. We continue to be impressed with the respectful environment at St. Teresa. Every time I visit, a student holds the door for me or greets me. We are doing our best to raise a kind, compassionate, and well-educated child and St. Teresa helps us every day in that goal.”

“We choose St. Teresa’s for our children because of its mission statement centered on developing students both intellectually and spiritually. The small class size allows for greater personal attention while the dedicated teachers provide a top-notch quality education and create a family-like learning environment. While St. Teresa’s offers a wide variety of athletics and extra-curricular activities, the most notable impression on us was the committed faculty and staff who continually elevate the reputation of St. Teresa’s academic excellence and instill the message of God in their daily teachings.”
—Chuck and Maryanne Larson
“What first impressed me about the St. Teresa of Avila Pre-K program was the class size and excellent student to teacher ratio. My child was shy, and being a part of a smaller instructional group was important. What I found in return was so much more. My child is now in the middle school program at St. Teresa’s, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the exceptional teachers, wonderful families and faith- filled community that is our school!”
“We believe the St. Teresa faculty strives to help each child reach their potential in a loving, faith-filled environment. The connections students feel to their teachers provide a foundation for academic success. The extra-curricular options give students the chance to have a variety of experiences, and there is a warm, team-like camaraderie among the parents.”
—Joe and Kelly Frank
“I will always remember our initial tour. It was a very busy afternoon and when we walked in we noticed children’s artwork and projects displayed everywhere. The school was neat and clean and the children were so well behaved. It seemed like such a loving, nurturing environment. After 8 years, I know it is. From a financial standpoint, this school is the best value we have received.”
“When you choose Catholic education, it is a sacrifice, but also the greatest gift you can ever give your child. Jesus is built in to their daily activities, curriculum, sporting events, holidays, and Holy days. When you choose St. Teresa School, your child has the opportunity to thrive in smaller class sizes and learn from a talented, caring staff while having access to state of the art technology. I continue to be amazed each year when a read in the paper that one of our alums is graduating first or second in their classes. To me, this is not a mere coincidence—it is proof that St. Teresa School provides a spring board for excellence in education and in life. My two children have benefitted greatly from their beginnings at St. Teresa.”
“When we were making a choice about schools for our children, we felt that it was important to give them a Catholic education. At that time we didn’t fully understand the wonderful impact of that decision. Sending our children to St. Teresa helped them develop a solid education in a disciplined environment with a deep sense of faith and relationship with God. The legacy of their Catholic education is still to come, but the love, trust and loyalty that St. Teresa School has offered will be a foundation for them on their life-long journey.”
