"My two sons attended school at St. Teresa and played ball. Good success with your sports."
George Bope
When I began school in the first grade, St. Teresa was a yellow brick building with four rooms on the top and an auditorium with a stage below. Three of the rooms were in use with two grades in the first room, and three in each of the other two. We did a lot of numbers on cheap paper with No 2 pencils, which put holes in the paper. Reading was taught with the use of an easel at the front of the room. "BaaBaa Black Sheep, Have you wool? Yes sir, yes, sir, Three bags full." By the time I was called to read, I had it committed to memory. I still remember that, but have a lot of trouble with remembering the special place I put something so I will be able to find it.
Father Schoppol was the pastor and the church was a little red brick structure with about 6 or 8 steps to the sidewalk along Perry Highway. Most of the parishioners were farmers or local tradesman. I guess today we would say it was quaint.
