Overview

The girls’ basketball program is under the direction of Mike Fischer, who will also be Head Varsity coach.

Students may participate in girls’ basketball beginning in the third grade. (This is in addition to the pre-season Little Titans Basketball Program which is for students in first, second and third grades.)   The girls’ program provides basketball instruction and opportunity at various levels of participation and competition.  Depending on the number of players at the various levels, the girls program consists of Instructional Team(s) - (3^rd & 4^th  grade), Developmental Team(s) - JV (5^th  & 6^th  grade) and Varsity (7^th  & 8^th  grade) and, Diocesan Teams - JV (5^th & 6^th grade) and Varsity (7^th & 8^th grade).  The regular season for basketball begins on or around October 15. Home games are generally held on week-end afternoons or evenings.

The objective of the Program is to teach the individual and team fundamentals of the game and to provide a team for each student who wants to participate.  All basketball team head and assistant coaches are certified by the Diocese of Pittsburgh and the State of Pennsylvania.

Instructional Basketball

Generally, the Instructional Team is comprised of participants from the third and fourth grades.  At this initial level, the students are provided with instruction concerning all basic basketball fundamentals and are introduced to team competition with other school programs. Players share playing time and no score is kept through the regular season.

Junior Varsity Basketball 

Junior Varsity level teams are generally comprised of students from the fifth and sixth grades.  The JV Diocesan Team is comprised of players selected by the coaching staff based on their demonstrated performance and ability to compete at this level. Players not selected for this team are eligible to participate in the JV Developmental Team. Both teams play a full complement of games against other schools.

Varsity Basketball

Varsity level teams are generally comprised of students from the seventh and eighth grades.  The Varsity Diocesan Team is comprised of players selected by the coaching staff based on their demonstrated performance and ability to compete at this, the highest level of grade school competition.  Both teams play a full complement of games against other schools.

Registration Requirements

The following forms must be completed in full and submitted to participate in the Girls’ Basketball Program.  The required forms are available on the St. Teresa web-site under Athletics.  The registration fee must also be submitted. This is for players in the 3^rd through 8^th grades.
