10th Annual RED DOOR Halloween Candy Collection
Wednesday, November 2nd.
Word has it that around this time every year, recipients of the Red Door Lunch Program at St. Mary of Mercy Church in Downtown Pittsburgh eagerly ask staff if the candy is coming and when.
This year, we will once again continue the tradition. We will be collecting candy selected by children from their own bags in addition to leftover and unwanted pieces Wednesday, November 2nd. for distribution to the homeless. These treats, in turn, will be included in the daily lunches handed out to the recipients of the program. Donations can be placed on the table in the main hallway by the bulletin board.
The RED DOOR Program began during the Great Depression and continues today thanks to generosity. The program provides its recipients bagged lunches year round – Monday through Saturday to more than 100 persons in need each day. Please share with your children how much these men and women anticipate and appreciate these treats and their act of kindness.
